Have the Flavor of Mom
As a child, I lived in a remote tribal village in the mountain area, which was poor and undeveloped at the time, and life was hard. Father always worked in the mountains during the day, and Mom was a homemaker. She not only ran a grocery shop, but also did chores around the house, and was busy all the time.

I remember Mom was not a good cook, and because she raised pigs, chickens, and ducks, and grew vegetables in the field, she always had many smells on her. I remember, when I went to school, there was always fried egg with tomato in my lunchbox; when I came home after school, this dish also showed up on dinner table from time to time. Decades have passed, and Taiwan's economy has taken off. The government has taken good care of the tribal village, and we now enjoy more resources and improved quality of life.

I created Have the Flavor of Mom in the loving memory of my mother. In the work, I use my body to make fried egg with tomato, cooking up a fine feast with my work for my mother.

Profile

WatdanWuma's own identity of Atayal and Hakka, both are minor ethnic groups in Taiwan, leads to a hybrid and in-between nature in him and probably an empathy for the marginalized and oppressed. Since he founded the performance art company Water Field Tribe in 2004, WatdanWuma has been engaging in reincarnation narrative of invisible subjects through physical movements as a performance artist. He has been invited to participate several international performance art festivals.
